Katy Perry's new single roars, but her lyric video for the song looks very familiar.
The video she released for her latest single "Roar" shows the lyrics popping onto the screen in the form of an iPhone text message, using emojis to substitute words in the song.
Producer/DJ Dillon Francis called out the pop star on Twitter, claiming that she stole the concept from him. He tweeted her directly, saying sarcastically that it was "so dope" that her director thought his video was "good enough to rip off." The producer then posted her video and asked "why?"
Legitimately this is so dope that @katyperry's director thought my video was good enough to rip off— DILLON FRANCIS (@DILLONFRANCIS) August 12, 2013
Katy's lyric video for "Roar" is extremely similar to Dillon's video for (appropriately named) "Messages" featuring Simon Lord - which was released back in early April. The "Messages" video also illustrates the lyrics of the song using the iPhone text message format and emojis.
