    THE QUEEN.

  •
BEST (Remember when Britney, *NSync and AerosmIth dazzled us) and WORST(wardrobe malfunction, anyone?) halftime performances in recent history.
  •
    WORST 2012 - Madonna & Nicki Minaj & M.I.A.

The idea of Madonna at the Super Bowl makes sense in theory, only it happened about two decades too late. While Nicki Minaj brought youth to the performance, M.I.A. brought her middle finger.

    WORST 2012 - Madonna & LMFAO

See previous photo... even the Party Rockers themselves couldn't save this runaway train.

  •
WORST 2011 - Black Eyed Peas & Slash

Again, not a bad idea, but bad execution.

  •
WORST 2011 - Black Eyed Peas & Usher

2011's halftime show left everyone saying, 'huh!?'

  •
    BEST 2010 - The Who

A Super Bowl Halftime for show for true fans of the Super Bowl: it rocked.

  •
BEST 2009 - Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band

    THE BOSS!

  •
WORST 2008 - Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers

This is one you REALLY wanted to like, but ended up being just okay, in a blah kind of way.

  •
    BEST 2007 - Prince

It rained during 'Purple Rain.' Read: Prince can control the elements AND command a crowd. Enough said.

  •
BEST 2006 - The Rolling Stones

    That's right. The ROLLING STONES.

  •
    BEST 2005 - Paul McCartney

After the disastrous nip-slip heard 'round the world (see next photo), who better than Sir Paul to get us back on the right foot?

  •
WORST 2004 - Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake

Sorry, Janet and JT, but NOBODY bought the whole 'accidental wardrobe malfunction' excuse. In fact, your gratuitous display of skin caused the FCC to rethink live broadcasts altogether.

  •
    WORST 2004 - Kid Rock

Supposed wardrobe malfunctions all around in 2004! Kid Rock angered veterans with his poncho made from an American Flag with a slit cut in it.

  •
    WORST 2004 - P Diddy and Nelly

EH. Kind of boring. Sorry Diddy.

  •
    BEST 2003 - Shania Twain

Can YOU argue with that outfit? Keep in mind, this is before Lady Gaga's reign as Mother Monster, Queen of the bizarre.

  •
BEST 2003 - No Doubt and Sting

Let Gwen's abs pick up where Shania's bedazzled cleavage left off.

  •
    BEST 2002 - U2

Following 9/11, the Superbowl halftime show paid tribute to the lives lost by displaying their names during a moving performance of "Beautiful Day."

  •
BEST 2001 - Ben Stiller, Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, Aerosmith, 'N Sync, Britney Spears, Mary J Blige, Nelly

Leave it to MTV to get this many A-listers on one stage. Maybe nostalgia has taken over, but those were the good 'ole (Justin and Britney) days.

  •
    WORST 2000 - Toni Braxton

Produced by Disney, therefore catered more to lovers of the sentimental rather than here-for-the-action football fans.

  •
WORST 2000 - Phil Collins, Christina Aguilera, Enrique Iglesias

Sorry, Disney, this wasn't your best work - and having legit artists sing songs nobody knows makes it even worse. Also, the Super Bowl is not the Olympics.

  •
WORST 1999 - Chaka Khan, Gloria Estefan, Stevie Wonder, KISS

It's hard to make sense of a stage celebrating "Soul, Salsa and Swing" made up of this motley crew, so we won't try to.

  •
    WORST 1999 - Gloria Estefan

This is probably not the best choice of artist for a football crowd.

  •
    WORST 1999 - Stevie Wonder

Stevie is extremely talented, but this wasn't the most exciting halftime performance.

  •

BEST 1998 - Boyz II Men, Smokey Robinson, Martha Reeves, The Temptations and Queen Latifah

The NFL paid tribute to Motown in this halftime spectacular.

  •
WORST 1997 - The Blues Brothers, James Brown, ZZ Top

Sorry, Jim Belushi, but there was too much of you, not enough ZZ Top and James Brown.

  •
    BEST 1996 - Diana Ross

A true crowd pleaser, Diana Ross played the hits - "Stop In the Name of Love," "You Keep Me Hangin' On," "Baby Love," "Ain't No Mountain High Enough," "I Will Survive" - and she ended with a helicopter exit, for the win.

  •
WORST 1995 - Patti Labelle and Tony Bennett

Again, Disney is not the way to go for the halftime show. We just feel sorry Tony Bennett and Patti Labelle found themselves in the middle of an Indiana Jones movie.

  •
WORST 1994 - The Judds, Clint Black, Tanya Tucker, and Travis Tritt

Sponsored by Wavy Lays, thank goodness we can wave goodbye to this country let down.

  •
    BEST 1993 - Michael Jackson

What happens when you combine the world's biggest star with one of America's most beloved sporting events? Magic, that's what.
